Learning Shortlist is the publishing name for the reviews, comparisons, and planning resources on this site. Recommendations are supported by linked sources and an explanation of the reasoning behind them.
Research, with its limits made clear
The current reviews are based on published program information and attributed user accounts. They do not claim personal enrollment, classroom testing, or results with a particular child. First-person wording expresses an editorial judgment or a proposed way to evaluate a program; it is not evidence of firsthand use.
What a review checks
- The product being purchased. Course format, included subjects, support, feedback, and the responsibilities that remain with the family.
- The full cost. Membership or subscription charges, course purchases, renewal terms, and likely categories of additional expense.
- Specific experiences. Attributed parent and student accounts, with attention to the course, date, and circumstances described.
- The practical tradeoffs. Independent work, parent time, presentation style, worldview, and the learner's need for help.
- Uncertainty. Missing details, older information, and claims that have not been independently established.
How conflicting accounts are handled
Different grade levels, subjects, expectations, and product versions can produce very different experiences. Online discussions are self-selected. They help identify questions to investigate, but do not establish typical results or a reliable satisfaction score.
Calculations and planning tools
Worked budgets are calculations from stated assumptions, not provider quotes. The budget calculator separates household fees, student costs, and optional spending. The trial worksheet offers a consistent way to record observations; it is not a validated assessment or a guarantee of fit.
Sources, corrections, and updates
Reviews link to their supporting material and carry a research date. Provider prices and terms can change, so confirm the actual offer before purchasing. An updated page should explain a changed conclusion when new evidence materially affects the recommendation. Numeric ratings are avoided when there is no defensible method for calculating them.
